The life-saving facilities in the Seosin underpass were installed on a pilot basis in Seosin, Andeokwon, and World Cup underpasses in Jeonju-si, which have a lot of vehicle traffic and are adjacent to rivers, with a special grant of 800 million won from the province as part of the team-by-team benchmarking idea project promoted by Governor Kim.
In addition, four people, including civil servants, police officers, and ordinary citizens, were designated for the underpass to take immediate preemptive measures in the event of an emergency, and the maximum submergence depth of the underpass control standard was changed to 15 cm or less.
In addition, the city is promoting the installation of automatic barriers in a total of 7 locations: 2 locations in Jeongeup City, 4 locations in Iksan City, and 1 location in Gimje City, where automatic barriers for underground passages have not been installed.
Governor Kim, while carrying out inspection activities, instructed officials to “mobilize all possible administrative power to prevent loss of life not only in underground passageways but also in semi-basement houses at risk of flooding and low-lying areas near rivers.”
Governor Kim continued, “The recent earthquake has weakened the ground, so there are concerns about damage in vulnerable areas such as landslides,” and asked, “Please do your best to intensively manage vulnerable areas and conduct surveillance activities to prevent secondary damage from additional rainfall.”
Meanwhile, Jeonbuk Autonomous Province has designated the five-month period from May 15 to October 15 as a summer countermeasure period, and is currently promoting constant monitoring of weather conditions and strengthening forecasting activities in areas at risk of casualties.
