Mumbai: The T20 World Cup winning Indian cricket team will be felicitated at a function organised at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday after a roadshow on an open bus. The Indian team is expected to reach New Delhi at 6.20 am on Thursday. The Indian team finally left for Delhi on Wednesday in a special flight from Grantley Adams International Airport after being stranded in Barbados for three days due to a category four storm. The special Air India flight AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup) took off at around 4.50 am local time and will reach Delhi at around 6.20 am Indian time on Thursday.

Team India is returning home by a special plane

The plane is carrying the Indian team, its support staff, players’ families and some officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and some members of the Indian media. This special flight has been arranged by the BCCI. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla said, ‘The team left Barbados in a special Air India plane provided by the BCCI. Indian journalists stranded in Barbados are also coming in the same flight along with the BCCI President (Roger Binny) and Secretary (Jay Shah).’
Road show on open bus from Nariman Point

Rajiv Shukla said, ‘The flight will land at Delhi airport tomorrow at 6 am. The team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11 am. After this, the team will fly to Mumbai where a program is being organized in their honor. A road show will be held in an open bus from Nariman Point and then the players will be awarded the prize money of Rs 125 crore announced. ‘ BCCI Secretary Shah welcomed all sports lovers to join the ‘Victory Parade’ (parade in celebration of victory) on Thursday evening.

Shah wrote on ‘X’, ‘Join us in the ‘Victory Parade’ organized to celebrate Team India’s World Cup victory. Come from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium on July 4 at 5 pm and celebrate with us. Remember the date.’ Earlier, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma also welcomed fans on social media. He said, ‘We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. Let’s celebrate this victory with a ‘Victory Parade’ on Marine Drive and Wankhede after 5 pm on July 4.’ Rohit wrote on ‘X’, ‘Coming home.’

A felicitation ceremony has also been planned for the Indian team members at the Wankhede. A similar roadshow was organised 14 years ago when the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side won the title by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the inaugural World T20 in South Africa in 2007. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the title with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final on Saturday.
