For years he photographed German stars, and now Juri Reetz himself has hit the headlines in a shocking way. The photographer was found dead.
The well-known Berlin celebrity photographer Juri Reetz has died at the age of 61. The photo agency “Sabine Brauer” announced this on Instagram on Wednesday. “It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our friend and photographer,” it says on a black-and-white photo of the deceased.
Reetz died “under tragic circumstances on Monday, July 1, 2024.” “Juri was a kind-hearted person and we will all miss him very much. With his great commitment and humorous nature, he leaves a huge gap in our team,” the agency writes.
It is not just the photographer’s team that is “deeply shocked by this terrible news”. Numerous celebrities have also publicly expressed their grief for Juri Reetz. In fact, the “Bild” newspaper, among others, reported, citing an authority spokesperson, that the photographer was found stabbed to death in his apartment in the Spandau district on Monday. A suspected perpetrator was arrested by the police on site, but was released a short time later due to a “self-defense situation that cannot be ruled out according to the current state of the investigation.” There is currently no strong suspicion of a crime.
