Baghdad – WAA
Our national volleyball team under 17 years old is participating in the Arab Championship, which will be held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, from the third to the twelfth of this July.
The media coordinator of the game federation, Abbas Hindi, said in a statement to Al-Sabah newspaper, followed by the (INA), today, Tuesday, that “the national team delegation traveled yesterday to Jordan with the aim of participating in the Arab Championship, which is scheduled to start its activities tomorrow, Wednesday, with the presence of (7) teams: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Libya, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan, in addition to Iraq, adding that our team will cut the ribbon of its matches the day after tomorrow, Thursday, against the Kuwaiti Blues.”
He explained that “the preparations were not up to expectations, as the team was satisfied with three internal training camps in Baghdad, Wasit and Najaf, during which it played several friendly matches, the last of which was against the Baghdad team, which it lost by three sets to one, adding that our team is determined, despite that, to present good levels and compete strongly in order to achieve a good position in the end.”
For his part, the President of the Volleyball Federation, Habib Ali Al-Lawandi, urged the team to represent the game in the best possible way by achieving positive results that enhance the reputation of our sport on the Arab level, stressing that he will spare no effort in order to make the Lions’ mission a success, which will be a gateway to successes and achievements coinciding with a new era for the game.”
He pointed out that “the elements chosen to wear the national jersey are the best locally, according to the convictions of the Iranian Javad Mehrgan, due to their possession of the specifications of a modern player, who will be the nucleus of the future and the true defender of the game in the upcoming events.”
It is noteworthy that the technical staff consists of Iranian Javad Mahregan as coach, assisted by Salman Razouki and Ahmed Kawoosh, in addition to fitness coach Dhargham Haidar.
