Morocco was represented at this meeting by a delegation led by the Kingdom’s ambassador to Egypt, permanent representative to the Arab League, Mohamed Ait Ouali.

Speaking at the opening of this Forum, Mr. Ait Ouali indicated that this meeting constitutes an additional link in Arab cooperation with the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, based on the historical ties of fruitful cooperation, dialogue, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, and the commitment to respect the sovereignty of states, their independence and their territorial integrity for a promising future on all levels, responding to the aspirations of peoples for greater development, prosperity and stability.

Highlighting the rapid changes and major challenges on the international scene, with their share of repercussions on the Arab region, the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, he stressed the need to understand this Forum as an opportunity to exchange views on issues of common interest, to further boost economic, cultural and social cooperation, and to strengthen trade relations.

In this regard, Mr. Ait Ouali specified that the Kingdom is keen to give a strong boost to cooperation with these countries, through the strengthening of trade, the encouragement of investment, the adhesion of the private sector to the creation of cooperation opportunities, and the exchange of experiences and expertise in several sectors. It is also a question of taking advantage of the successful experiences accumulated by Morocco in several areas, particularly in renewable energies, agriculture and the green economy, he continued.

Furthermore, he stressed that the Forum is being held in a context marked by the painful situation experienced by the Palestinian people, noting that the settlement of the Palestinian cause, in accordance with the resolutions of international legality and within the framework of the two-state solution, will remain the keystone for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East region.

The Kingdom of Morocco, whose Sovereign HM King Mohammed VI chairs the Al-Quds Committee, has constantly reiterated the need to move away from the logic of conflict in order to make peace prevail, which requires a just solution to the Palestinian cause, he noted.

In this regard, he recalled that HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, has repeatedly stressed the importance of preserving the legal and historical status of the Holy City, and the categorical rejection of unilateral measures.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, noted that the Arab region, the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan constitute a special geographical, civilizational and cultural space.

After stressing that the Forum is being held in a context marked by multiple challenges and crises, he drew attention to the dangerous developments in the Palestinian territories, calling, in this sense, for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
