Turkey issued NAVTEX shortly before midnight on Friday announcing cable laying operations

Turkey insists on the systematic questioning of Greek sovereign rights in the Eastern Mediterranean on the occasion of the work of the Italian research C/S TELIRI by issuing a new NAVTEX in an area it christens “Turkish continental shelf” and which overlaps the Greek continental shelf south of Rhodes and Kastellorizos and southeast of Crete. With the same NAVTEX, it covers part of the Cypriot continental shelf west of the island.

Shortly before midnight on Friday, Turkey issued NAVTEX 0615/24 announcing the laying of cables (for telecommunications) by the C/S TELIRI pointing out that it is an area of the “Turkish continental shelf”.

This new Turkish NAVTEX follows the first announcement issued by the Antalya station and revealed the First Topic on June 25 and shows Turkey’s persistence in raising the issue of challenging the Greek continental shelf and reaffirming the “Blue Homeland” and the Turkish Gulf Memorandum.
