The battle for electric SUVs is intensifying in France. Xpeng, often called the “Chinese Tesla”, launches its G6 with competitive prices.

Notice for fans of electric SUVs: a major new competitor is coming to France. Xpeng, the Chinese manufacturer that is making waves, is launching its G6 with prices that may be too much for Tesla. Offensive copying that could destroy the electric car market in France.

Aggressive pricing site

Xpeng is not taking half measures when entering the French market. The G6, a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, is available at very competitive prices:

  • Autonomy Standard Version: €42,990
  • Long stand-alone version: €46,990
  • Performance Version : 50 990 €

These prices put the G6 in the same range as the Model Y, or even slightly below depending on the variant. But, Unlike Tesla, Xpeng does not benefit from the ecological bonus on this model. Note, however, that there is no indication that Xpeng applies additional discounts, which is not Tesla’s policy.

Technology that has nothing to envy in the competition

But the G6 doesn’t just play the price card. In terms of technology, it has more than one trick up its sleeve:

  • 800-volt architecture: enable ultra-fast charging from 215 to 280 kW. Xpeng promises a 10-80% recharge in just 20 minutes.
  • Impressive autonomy: up to 570 km in the WLTP cycle for the long autonomy version
  • Level 2 semi-autonomous driving as standard: the “XPilot Driving” system has been proven on a German highway.
  • Bidirectional charging: a feature still rare on the market, which allows the car battery to be used as an external energy source.

Xpeng’s “Tesla” approach

Interestingly, Xpeng takes a very similar approach to Tesla. The Chinese manufacturer develops much of its technologies internally: platform, engines, battery packs, operating system, etc., a strategy that allows it to control the entire value chain and optimize the performance of its vehicles.

This approach is also reflected in the simplicity of the range: three versions, few options, a philosophy that recalls Tesla in his early days.
