Talsos loves rallying, moreover, he is not afraid to dream boldly and even “drives” into a lake with a rally car. Enthusiasts who have decided to bring a mini-rally to the Tulsa region for the first time are also among the dumb ones. Part of the trips will take place on the CVS track, where silence has reigned for several years, and nature has established its own order there. That is why the enthusiasts themselves organized a clean-up on the weekend to tidy up the track.
“The mini rally is the first step towards the big rally. People who want to try it and see if they like it at all can participate here,” said Renārs Zapackis, one of the organizers of the “Talsi” mini-rally, after stopping the cutting of bushes for a moment on the CVS track. The people of Talsi quite insistently went to their goal and to the Latvian Automobile Federation’s Standard Automobile Commission, trying to prove that they are capable of organizing the Mini Rally and that Talsi needs it. With several approaches, the persuasion succeeded. “It seems to me that no one in Tulsa needs to be told how deep our roots in motorsport are. Therefore, our task now is to start this movement, to gather as many people as possible so that we can bring the rally festival back to Tulsa,” says Renars.
Mini-rally “Talsi” will be a novelty of this season in Latvia, and it will take place on August 24. There will be five individual stages, which will be for the first time not only in Tulsa, but in a mini-rally in general, because usually the athletes of some speed stages simply drive twice. The mini rally will be on the CVS track, two stages in Mordanga and one each in Purgalciem and near Lauciene. The CVS track was quite overgrown even before last week, no serious motorsport events have taken place there in recent years. “Of course, we could have taken something simpler, but this track has historically been a part of the Talsi Rally, and we wanted to restore it now,” explains Rudolfs Graholskis, who is also one of the organizing team, the desire and the madness of Talsi drivers. “Let it be like a warning to all drivers. To feel the taste of the rally in the mini-rally!” Just like before, the “Talsi” mini-rally will also have parallel runs. From the driver’s point of view, it’s interesting, because you can’t tell at which moment who is ahead, because the track is so tricky. At one point it seems like you’re ahead, but the inner circle is shorter and it’s actually the other way around. And it’s interesting for spectators, because they can watch two cars at the same time, and in principle, they can see almost the entire track.»
Tenis Shevchenko, who himself is a driver in the mini-rally, also took part in the rally. “We need to help improve the track – maybe it will revive again in the future, and there will be interesting competitions that will attract athletes, spectators and tourists,” Tenis admitted. He was in charge of cleaning the surface, and already in August he himself will drive on this track. “Therefore, it should be done in such a way that it is a pleasure to sit next to it and participate,” Tenis said with a smile. He has heard that the mini-rally in Talsos will be very interesting – a lot of winding sections, hilly areas, and it is also interesting for the athletes if the rally does not take place in the same place every year.
A lot of work has been done, but one cleaning will not be enough. Moreover, it is not that much effort has been invested at the moment, but after the mini-rally the CVS track will be neglected again – enthusiasts have already entered into negotiations to hold winter cups and autosprints here as well.
