(ANSA) – UDINE, JULY 4 – “The government’s commitment is to absolutely prevent the existence of free zones removed from the legality of the State and if anyone thinks that this is possible, they will very soon receive the answer they deserve. The first step to solve the problem is not to hide from us that the phenomenon of violence and crime must be tackled head on”. This was said today by the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani on the sidelines of the last farewell, with the display of the coffin in a chapel of rest in the town hall of Udine, to Shimpei Tominaga, the Japanese entrepreneur resident in the Friulian capital who died from injuries sustained following an attack suffered in the center of the Friulian capital for having intervened to quell a fight on the night of June 22.
Ciriani stressed that the government’s reaction to Tominaga’s death was immediate: “The Minister of the Interior Piantedosi has already sent new forces of order, policemen and carabinieri, and then there is the presence of the Army, and the police commissioner and the prefect have been directly involved by the minister so that the protection of the citizens is maximum”, he highlighted. “We must take note that Udine cannot change its skin or appearance – he continued – it is a civilized city; this episode has tarnished the image of Friuli, it is a stain to be erased quickly, immediately demonstrating what we are: a civilized city and a population of good people”.
The minister then returned to talk about the victim: “We are here to pay homage to a good person, a brave man, a hero of civic sense, and to express the government’s closeness and condolences”. “On a personal level – the minister concluded – I must add a note of shame for what happened: it is not easy to explain to the family that a good person who came from Japan was killed in Friuli at the hands of criminal gangs. And Friuli cannot be represented by this”. (ANSA).
