Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner beat Matteo Berrettini in SW19, so the Italian can breathe a sigh of relief. “It’s very difficult for us to come together in the second round,” says Sinner.
London. Epic match: Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner passed the test against fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini at Wimbledon and moved into the third round. The world number one won the 2021 Wimbledon final 7:6 (7:3), 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 7:6 (7:4) in an engaging and entertaining duel throughout. “We are good friends, we play Davis Cup together, we train together sometimes. It is very difficult for us to come together in the second round,” said Sinner, who is now playing against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
Alcaraz confidently
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is yet to drop a set after a successful second round appearance at Wimbledon. Spain’s world number three defeated Australian Aleksandar Vukic 7:6 (7:5), 6:2, 6:2 and thus made his place in the third round perfect. Alcaraz meets USA’s Frances Tiafoe.
In the only previous encounter with Vukic, the Spaniard had lost. The duel took place under completely different circumstances regarding the qualification for the French Open in 2020. The then 17-year-old was still at number 193 in the world, but is now a winner in three-time Grand Slam tournament. The 21-year-old recently won the French Open in the final against Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.
