INVESTIGATION
The family of Lieutenant Pamela Aidita Ati is demanding that the facts surrounding her tragic death be clarified. The Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into alleged femicide.
On June 29, Second Lieutenant Ati was found dead at the Napo Military Fort. The results of the first autopsy indicated that she died of asphyxiation due to strangulation. During the wake and burial, held on July 1 in the south of Quito, cries of “justice!” resounded among family members and friends. The coffin, escorted by members of the Armed Forces, was taken to the Santo Tomás community house.
Cry for Justice
The commander general of the Armed Forces, Fernando Adatty, attended the wake. In the presence of the commander, the relatives of the second lieutenant demanded clarity on the circumstances of her death. Luis Ati, the young woman’s father and retired military officer, denounced irregularities in the information provided about his daughter’s death. “First they told me that she died ‘drowned by liquor’. Lies. She was abused, she was murdered and allegedly raped,” he said with pain.
Luis Ati expressed his indignation and distrust towards the military institution in statements to Ecuavisa: “Where are we, which soldiers are we talking to, who is defending us, if they are killing our daughters.”
Contradictions in the versions
While the Army initially claimed the lieutenant’s death was due to “asphyxiation caused by an obstruction of the airway while she was sleeping,” Aidita’s family maintains that she was murdered. “They strangled her, killed her, abused her, beat her, and allegedly raped her,” her father said. A report revealed that the lieutenant’s lifeless body was found at 6:40 a.m., but the family was notified until 9 a.m.
Ongoing research
The Prosecutor’s Office has prosecuted four military personnel in relation to the alleged femicide of Aidita Ati. The judge in the case ordered alternative measures to preventive detention for the accused. Initially, 18 people from the military institution were detained for investigations, of which only four have been prosecuted so far.
Call to the truth
Aidita Ati’s family is calling for a thorough investigation and justice for their daughter. The community and authorities will be closely watching the development of this case, which has generated a deep impact and questions about security and respect within the Armed Forces. The second lieutenant’s burial took place in the Santa Rosa cemetery, closing a painful chapter for her family, but opening a fight for justice and truth that continues to this day.
