The Cuban regime seized a container of humanitarian aid that had been sent to a church in Cuba.

The Castro entity in charge of carrying out this action was the Department of Attention to Religious Institutions and Fraternal Associations of the Cuban regime.

The container of humanitarian aid had been sent to the Evangelical Church of Cuba called “En Jescuristo Libres” by the Christian organization International Aid Trust, based in London.

According to the independent media outlet CubaNet, the analyst of the Department of Attention to Religious Institutions and Fraternal Associations, Ignacio Valdivia O’Farrill, stated that the confiscation of the container of humanitarian aid “is a sovereign decision of the Cuban State.”

“There is an approved procedure that consists of accepting or not accepting goods entering the country based on their origin, characteristics and objectives. When some of these things are not in accordance with what was approved, the State can make the decision to confiscate, as was the case here,” the official said in an audio recording to which the aforementioned independent Cuban media outlet had access.

Likewise, the Castro official justified the confiscation of humanitarian aid, stating that “there were many inconsistencies in the import procedure” on the part of those who made the arrangements. This without specifying what these alleged inconsistencies were.

For their part, representatives of the Church in Cuba considered that the sending of this humanitarian aid, which took place last February, complied with all the requirements imposed by the Customs of the Republic of Cuba and other organizations of the Castro regime.

It is important to mention that among the products confiscated by the Castro regime that were in this container of humanitarian aid were food, clothing and shoes, household appliances, an electric generator, sewing machines, mattresses, musical instruments, and the entire donation was valued at more than 6 thousand dollars.

This is not the first time that the Castro dictatorship has carried out this type of arbitrary actions. In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the dictatorship confiscated containers of humanitarian aid that had been sent from Miami after a collection led by members of the Cuban exile community to help their compatriots on the island who were going through very difficult times.
