Google has introduced a new feature for the Chrome mobile browser on the Android platform – “Listen to this page”. This option allows users to listen to the text from a web page read by the built-in voice synthesizer. Information about the new feature appeared on the website of The Verge, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
The feature adds playback controls such as pause, change reading speed, fast forward or rewind 10 seconds. Users can also select the voice and language of the voiceover. The list of supported languages currently includes English, French, German, Arabic, Hindi and Spanish.
The “Listen to this page” option will be available in the main menu of the app, right under the “Translate” section. This update should improve the usability of the browser for users with visual disabilities or for those who prefer to listen to content rather than read it.
The Verge noted that a similar option has existed in the Siri browser on the iPhone for a long time.
