Under the supervision of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), 2 lakh 37 thousand two-hole toilets have been constructed in 30 districts of the country under safe management. Water supply system has been installed in 60 thousand houses. These toilets have been constructed under the project ‘Progressive Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Resource Development’.

This information was given at the third annual coordination meeting of the project organized at PKSF building on Thursday (July 4).

Although open defecation is almost eliminated in Bangladesh, there is a severe lack of access to hygienic and safe toilets. Since 2021, the Government of Bangladesh has been implementing a specialized project titled ‘Prompt Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Resource Development’ to meet the 6th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (clean water and sanitation). PKSF is responsible for implementing the project.

PKSF Additional Managing Director during the meeting. Md. Jasim Uddin said that this five-year project with the joint financing of World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is being implemented in 182 upazilas of 8 divisions of the country through 87 subsidiary organizations of PKSF.

Rokeya Ahmed, Senior Water and Sanitation Specialist of World Bank and General Manager and Project Coordinator of PKSF among others in this coordination meeting. Abdul Matin spoke. Besides, in the open discussion phase, the representatives of the partner organizations held constructive discussions on various aspects of the implementation of the project activities.

Special awards were given to 20 branches of 11 subsidiary organizations for achieving targets in project implementation.
