The programme for the 12th round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship, the British Grand Prix, starts on Friday.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, the competition will be held at the Silverstone circuit.
At the last stage in Austria, a rare event for recent years occurred – an accident in the fight for the lead in the race: the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who recently calmly won one race after another, collided with his friend, the Briton Lando Norris (McLaren). The three-time world champion was found guilty of the incident, who, unlike the McLaren driver, was able to reach the finish line in fifth place. After the race, Verstappen did not admit guilt, while Norris was annoyed by his friend’s behavior. In the personal standings, the two leaders of the championship are already separated by 81 points.
The Silverstone circuit is located near the village of the same name in Northamptonshire. The first official Grand Prix took place on May 13, 1950, this race was the first in the history of Formula 1. During its existence, the circuit layout has changed nine times. The circuit is considered difficult, high-speed, it has many fast turns.
The record holder for victories at the British Grand Prix is Britain’s Lewis Hamilton, who has finished first at his home round eight times. Among current drivers, other winners here include Spaniards Fernando Alonso (2006, 2011), Carlos Sainz Jr. (2022), and Verstappen (2023), who won here in 2020 and at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.
