Alessandro Balbo (ANSA) – ROME, JULY 5 – The Italian Celiac Association (AIC) has launched the new call “AIC Investigator Grant – Call for Proposals 2024”, aimed at highly qualified senior researchers with proven expertise and aimed at funding the best scientific research projects on celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis and non-celiac wheat sensitivity (NCWS).
The researchers to whom the call is addressed (Principal investigator, PI) are scholars with proven international experience in the sector, who will conduct the research projects selected for funding at the Italian non-profit research body (public or private) to which they belong).
The AIC Investigator Grant 2024 call is a co-financing program for scientific research: the PI and his/her institution participate in the implementation of the selected research project through their own non-profit funds, for which a total allocation of 450 thousand euros is foreseen. Annual, biennial or triennial research projects, including multi-center ones, can be submitted.
The deadline to apply for participation in the call, available on the Association’s website, is set for Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 12:00 Italian time. The application can be submitted exclusively through the Web Portal ‘Associazione Italiana Celiachia Calls and Proposals’. The call is entirely financed with 5×1000 funds.
The type of call for proposals for 2024 is just one of the two ways of financing AIC research projects, focused on genetics, immunology, prevention, food technology, and clinical practice. In addition to the Investigator Grants, aimed at senior researchers, there are also Fellowship calls, to train tomorrow’s doctors and researchers.
Since 2013, AIC has invested approximately 4 million euros in over 30 scientific projects, which have produced more than 70 publications in international journals. “The Italian Celiac Association’s commitment to scientific research has grown over the years,” says Rossella Valmarana, president of the Association, “and reflects what we believe in: conducting research that has a proven social impact and disseminating the results obtained from studies. Not only in the scientific community and the medical profession,” she continues, “but by putting them at the service of celiac patients through a series of institutional initiatives, such as the annual Scientific Conference, the magazine Celiachia Notizie, the direct involvement of the 21 associated territorial AICs, and all our communication channels.” (ANSA).
