The presentation of evidence in the trial hearing against five suspects in the murder of Fernando Villavicencio continued this Monday, July 1, 2024. Cristian Cevallos, who was his head of security, gave his testimony.

Cevallos said that on August 9, 2023, he met with Villavicencio at 2:30 p.m. to pick him up from his home and then take him to a restaurant. Later, he took him to the political rally in Quito.

The event ended at 6:00 p.m. and they took him out through the same door he entered. But when they opened the door of a van he heard the burst of gunfire. “I took out my gun to repel the attack. There were many people nearby. I went behind the van and saw two motorcycles passing by on my left side. I entered the van and saw him wounded,” he explained. After this he took him to a nearby clinic.

In his version he said that Fernando Villavicencio had told him that some assembly members had threatened him: “Roberto C., Ronald G., the assembly member (Paola) C., Walter G., and Ronny A.”

He added that he knew that alias Fito had also threatened Villavicencio.
