The head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naeem Al-Aboudi, confirmed today, Wednesday, that Dhi Qar Governorate is free of radioactive contamination.

The minister said during a press conference attended by Dhi Qar Governor Murtada Abboud Al-Ibrahimi and members of the Diwani Order Committee (23580), which was conveyed by the media office in a statement received by the (INA): “The specialized national teams in the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission were able, with exceptional effort, to treat the contaminated war remnants that amounted to nearly two hundred tons of contaminated iron pieces within a record time of thirty-four days.”
He pointed out that “the inspection teams of the National Nuclear, Radiological and Chemical Regulatory Authority conducted the necessary surveys, which proved that Dhi Qar Governorate is free of radioactive waste.”
He added, “Experts from the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission are continuing the procedures to purify a number of other provinces, and the final announcement that Iraq is completely free of radioactive contamination will be soon.”
