The German company Teamviewer has apparently fallen victim to a hacker attack. The trail leads to Russia.
The Swabian software company Teamviewer says it has fallen victim to a hacker attack. On Wednesday, the company’s IT was attacked using an employee’s login data, the company announced on Friday.
“Based on continuous security monitoring, our teams have identified suspicious behavior on the account and immediately taken countermeasures,” said the message to customers that Teamviewer published on its homepage. According to current information, the Russian hacker group APT29, which also goes by the name “Midnight Blizzard” and is allegedly acting on behalf of the Russian government, is behind the attack.
The news weighed on the shares of the manufacturer of remote control and remote maintenance software. They fell by more than nine percent on Friday to an annual low of 10.11 euros.
Initially, Teamviewer had only written about “an anomaly in our internal IT environment”. According to the findings so far, the cyber attack was limited to Teamviewer’s internal IT, the updated statement said.
“There is no indication that the attackers have gained access to our product environment or customer data.” The servers, networks and accounts are always kept strictly separate.
