Centro Deportivo Olmedo has officially announced the departure of Argentine coach Juan Cruz, ending his time at the helm of the Riobamba team. Cruz, who had a long preseason with the “Ciclón”, was unable to translate his work into official competition, which led the board to take the decision to terminate his contract.
During the first few matches of the tournament, the team managed to accumulate 9 points, but the performance on the field left much to be desired. Despite the results, the team’s style of play did not convince either the fans or the board, generating concern about the future of the team under Cruz’s direction. The situation became more difficult in the match against the nascent Darwin de Alausí club, where Olmedo suffered a defeat. This result set off alarm bells and marked the beginning of the end of Cruz’s era in the team. In matchday 5, against STAR Club, Olmedo found himself in an even more complicated situation. Despite a 3-3 draw, achieved thanks to a goal by Luis Congo in the last minutes, the team’s play was not very attractive and lacked the ideas necessary to inspire confidence in the fans. These results and the team’s general performance led Olmedo’s board to conclude that Juan Cruz’s project was not achieving the expected objectives. The team has continued training normally under the interim direction of Professor Omar Ledesma. The Olmedo board has expressed its gratitude to Juan Cruz and is already looking for a suitable replacement who can lead the team to achieve its objective. Olmedo will debut in the Copa Ecuador, against Gualaceo on June 30 at the Fernando Guerrero Olympic Stadium.
