P Jayachandran: P Jayachandran receives the JC Daniel Award

Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam lyricist P Jayachandran received the JC Daniel Award. The award was presented by the Chief Minister at a function held at the Senate Hall, Thiruvananthapuram. The function was accompanied by a musical party with hit songs sung by Jayachandran.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the award has reached the most deserving hands. Receiving the award, Jayachandran said, “Recognition is a strength for a music student who is still studying. The highlight of the function was a musical feast led by Kallara Gopan, which featured songs sung by P Jayachandran for a long time. The award ceremony was postponed due to Kovid’s background. The logo design of the 26th Kerala International Film Festival was also unveiled at the event.

P Jayachandran was born in Ravipuram, Ernakulam, the son of musician Tripunithura Ravi Varma Kochanian Thampuran and Subhadra Kunjamma. It all started with winning prizes for simple music and percussion at the school level. The first film was sung in 1965. The film was directed by Kunjalimara. In 1967, he sang his all-time famous song, Manjala. In his musical career so far, he has sung over 10,000 songs in various languages. In 1986, he won the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer and won the Kerala State Film Award six times.
