President Joe Biden admitted he failed during the debate against Donald Trump last week. However, he tried to reassure his key allies and promised to continue fighting in the election race.
Speaking to an American radio station, the 46th US president said he had made a mistake with his poor performance, but urged voters to judge him by his performance so far. The American president’s delayed reactions during the debate with Trump intensified calls for him to drop out of the race, writes NOVA.
The president’s team tried to explain his performance at the humiliating debate with a busy schedule. In three weeks, Biden crossed the Atlantic twice for meetings with foreign leaders and then flew from Italy to California for a campaign fundraiser.
Biden himself also blamed fatigue for his performance in the debate.
“I wasn’t very smart,” he said. “I decided to go around the world several times, I don’t know how many time zones I changed”. The president accused himself of not listening to his employees – “I came back and almost fell asleep on stage”. And he added that this was not an apology, but an explanation.
