“This is an invasion”: Biden has decided to impose sanctions on Russia

After the White House ruled that “Russia’s last steps constitute an invasion of Ukraine,” Biden spoke tonight (Tuesday) and imposed economic sanctions on Russia. Biden said there was no justification for the invasion and that Putin was biting into Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has announced the evacuation of the embassy in Ukraine in the near future. According to the announcement, Russian diplomats in Ukraine received threats of physical violence, so it was decided to evacuate them.

Today (Tuesday), Foreign Minister Yair Lapid spoke with Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky. Lapid emphasized that the priority of the State of Israel is the preservation of the lives of the emissaries of the state and of the citizens of Israel who are in Ukraine, as well as for the Jewish community. The Foreign Minister spoke with the Israeli ambassador who arrived in the city of Lvov.

Minister Lapid thanked Ambassador Brodsky and the entire staff of the Embassy and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their accurate and smooth assessments and execution of the evacuation procedure. The embassy staff has joined the staff of the Temporary Consular Office, which was established in the city of Lvov last week and will continue to provide assistance to Israelis in need.

In a statement issued this morning at the Foreign Ministry headed by Minister Lapid, Lapid expressed his appreciation to the neighbors of Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Moldova for responding to Israel’s request to allow Israeli citizens to cross border crossings if necessary. The Foreign Ministry reiterates its call on all Israeli citizens to leave Ukraine immediately.
