Depending on what is available on Amazon’s business site, other products will be recommended to users. The EU Commission is now asking for clarification: Is this really happening?
The European Commission is questioning the US internet giant Amazon provides more information about the transparency of certain verification systems used by the trading system. For example, such systems use artificial intelligence to collect data from customers and recommend additional products.
The Brussels authority has now submitted a request for information on the basis of the new EU law on digital services, as announced. The US party must also explain what options it gives users to opt out of creating profiles for such insurance systems.
Amazon wants to cooperate
Amazon said it will review the application and work closely with the EU Commission. The company shares the Brussels mandate’s goal of creating a “safe, predictable and trustworthy shopping environment,” an Amazon spokesman said. “We invest heavily in protecting our store from bad actors, illegal content and creating a trusted shopping experience.”
Possible outcomes
According to the statement, Amazon must provide the requested information by July 26th. Based on the answers, the Board will decide the next steps. If the company provides false, incomplete or misleading information or refuses to answer questions, the authority may impose fines.
