In an interview with José Cárdenas on his Radio Fórmula program, Judge de la Peza said:

“I feel worried and vulnerable in the face of the full force of the State against me, but on the other hand I am also concerned from a legal point of view because it is an attack on the constitutional principle of judicial independence.”

The judge said that his decision was politicized and that this means that “future decisions by me and by judges in general cannot be considered as having been made in legal terms, but rather it will seem that I decide based on political pressures.”

He said he is afraid, but noted that he knew that “there would be a reaction from the political actors, but I did not expect that reaction from the Electoral Tribunal” which, he said, could have filed a complaint, instead of a complaint against him before the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
