“We must not bury multilateralism. We must rather look at the results and try to build something positive for the future, while relying on stronger institutions, with more secure and developed means, capable of responding to increasingly diversified, heavy and costly needs,” said Mr. Jouahri, during a conversation with the Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Taline Koranchelian, as part of a special edition of the IMF’s Finance & Development magazine.

Thus, Mr. Jouahri emphasized the complexity that characterizes the context in which the 2023 Annual Meetings (AA) of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the IMF will take place, scheduled in Marrakech from October 9 to 15, marked in particular by geopolitical and geoeconomic fragmentation combined with the paradigm shifts that the world is currently experiencing.

It will therefore be “difficult to imagine what the Marrakech declaration will be,” he said, noting the imperative of knowing what to prioritize and how to then ensure the monitoring and evaluation of the actions implemented.

This special edition of the IMF Finance and Development magazine is part of the WBG-IMF AA 2023, which will be held in Marrakech from October 9 to 15, and where more than 15,000 high-level participants are expected, including Ministers of Economy and Finance and Governors of Central Banks of member countries, as well as representatives of civil society, the private sector, international media and academia.
