More than 100 people were killed in a stampede at a religious event in the northern Indian city of Hathras.

This was reported by Hindustan Times.

The incident occurred while the preacher Bhola Baba was giving a speech to his followers in a specially erected tent. At least 107 people were killed, most of them women.

It became very stuffy inside, and people began to hurry outside. In the huge crowd, many lost consciousness.

One of the victims told the publication that everyone started falling on top of each other, creating a crush. He tried to get out, but the path was blocked by parked motorcycles, which complicated the evacuation. Many lost consciousness, and others died.

The exact cause of death is still being investigated. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed regret over the incident and instructed the city authorities to quickly carry out a rescue operation and provide assistance to the victims.

Recall that in October 2022, at least 8 people were killed and 13 others were injured in India during a religious ceremony on the banks of the Mal River in the state of West Bengal.

Then, a sudden sharp rise in the water level in the river led to dozens of people falling into the water. It happened in the Jalpaiguri area during the mass ceremony of “Durga Visarjan”, when idols of the goddess Durga, revered by Hindus, are floated into the water.

Earlier, Cursor reported that the worst heat wave in Indian history killed 50 people.
