/ Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani visited Bismayah city in Baghdad today, Monday.
His media office said in a statement received by Shafak News Agency that Al-Sudani sponsored the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Investment Authority and the Korean Hanwha Company to resume work in the city.
Al-Sudani explained, according to the statement, that the visit witnessed a meeting with a group of residents of Bismayah City, and he listened to their comments regarding the services provided and directed to follow up on them. He also distributed a number of residential unit sales bonds to new buyers.
During the signing ceremony, Al-Sudani stressed that his visit to Bismayah comes within the framework of the government’s seriousness in solving the housing problem in general, and the special interest in this promising and important housing project in solving this problem that our society suffers from, pointing out that the Council of Ministers approved in November of last year to proceed with the completion of 30,000 housing units in Bismayah, and to authorize the Investment Authority to search for funding sources in order to complete another 70,000 housing units.
Al-Sudani described the signing of a memorandum of understanding to resume work as an important step and a message expressing the seriousness of both parties to resume work and implement the project, stressing the government’s commitment to supporting all efforts to implement this project, which is the only one targeting middle-income people.
He expressed his appreciation for the Korean Hanwha Company, which worked in Iraq during the years of sectarian violence and instability, which calls for our support and removing all obstacles facing it, indicating the possibility of the company being a party to other projects due to the conviction of its capabilities and seriousness in work.
He added that the company has the opportunity to be present in Iraq for other housing projects due to its presence on the ground at the level of factories and workshops, stressing that the company has a work history that has extended since 2012, during which it has gained experience in dealing with state institutions and reviewing the laws, which is an opportunity that has not been available to the rest of the companies that have not yet entered the Iraqi market.
It is noteworthy that the residents of the Bismayah residential complex in Baghdad had organized several demonstrations last October in protest against the policy of the Investment Authority, which prompted the Korean company “Hanwha” to withdraw from completing the complex project, which is considered the first and best housing project in Iraq and work began on it in 2012.
