In September 2024: a new revaluation of the minimum contribution
The minimum contributory amount (Mico) is the system intended to guarantee a minimum income to pensioners who have contributed to the general Social Security system, but have only received a low income throughout their career.
Its amount is not fixed and depends on a number of factors, including the number of quarters given and the amount of the basic retirement pension. In 2023, the amounts were 684.14 euros per month for the basic amount (for the whole career) and up to 747.57 euros per month for the increased amount, if the insured paid 120 quarters on his less than the general regime.
But the controversial pension reform increased this minimum, so that small pensions reach at least 85% of the net minimum wage (1,200 euros at the time of the reform), for an employee with a full career on the minimum wage. Also, on October 9, 500,000 of these small pensions (according to Retirement Insurance) were increased by “50 euros on average”, as an exceptional increase.
A gradual implementation, since 1.7 to 1.8 million pensioners were supposed to benefit from this boost, which was initially announced at up to 100 euros per month. According to the Cnav (retirement insurance) circular, September 2024 is the deadline for establishing the full implementation of the reform.
The lowest income pensioners who have not yet benefited from this increase (more than a million) must expect this increase in their September pension. Those affected should receive a letter during the summer informing them of this increase, the amount, as well as the amount to be made up for the missing twelve months.
In November 2024: indexation of the Agirc-Arrco supplement to inflation
As every year, the amount of the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension (which is mainly aimed at employees in the private sector, whether managers or non-managers) will be reviewed on 1 November. It will then be indexed for inflation, minus a “sustainability factor” of 0.4%.
At the moment, the amount of this revaluation is unknown because the annual inflation estimate for 2024 has not yet been delivered by INSEE. The statistical institute will do so on Tuesday 9 July, once in the previous election period. Banque de France projections are 2.5%. If this figure is confirmed, Agirc-Arrco supplementary pensions could rise by slightly more than 2%.
