On Saturday, July 6, the final matches of the quarter-final stage of Euro 2024 were held. England beat Switzerland on penalties thanks to a save by Pickford, and Holland won a comeback victory over Turkey.

England – Switzerland 0:0 (5:3)

Switzerland, under Murat Yakin, played a reserved and defensive game in the first half, while England tried to dictate the terms of the game. Despite their dominance, the Three Lions were unable to capitalize on their first-half advantage.

The turning point came in the second half when Breel Embolo opened the scoring in the 75th minute, finishing home from a cross from the flank. However, England were quick to respond and just five minutes later Bukayo Saka scored a powerful strike from the edge of the area.

Despite efforts by both teams to score a second goal in the remaining time, the score remained untouchable, leading to overtime, where both teams were also unable to determine a winner.

The deciding battle eventually came at the penalty spot, with the English goalkeeper emerging as the hero, stopping one of the shots, which, combined with some fine strikes from his teammates, ensured they won the series.

Holland – Türkiye 2:1

From the first minutes of the match, both teams were active and created several dangerous moments. The Turks opened the scoring first. In the 35th minute, Arda Guller perfectly crossed into the penalty area, where Samet Akaydin headed the ball under the crossbar. This moment left the Dutch team in the role of catch-up for most of the game.

The Dutch managed to equalize the score in the 70th minute thanks to a technical performance by Memphis Depay, who passed the ball to Stefan De Vrij. He, not missing the moment, restored parity in the match with an accurate header. Just five minutes later, Turkish player Mert Myrdur cut the ball into his own goal, ensuring Holland their first Euro semi-final in 20 years.

Turkey desperately tried to equalize the score until the end of the match, creating several dangerous moments, but the Dutch defense managed to successfully repel all attacks.

The semi-final matches will take place on July 10. Spain will play France, and England will play Holland.

Earlier, “Cursor” wrote that after the German national team’s elimination from Euro 2024, Kroos announced the end of his playing career.
