Illegal Export of Used Automobile Parts Intercepted by Lille Customs Agents in France

by time news

Customs agents in Lille (France) intercepted two containers being illegally exported to Senegal.

Lille customs agents announced in a press release that these containers are filled with 49 tons of used automobile parts.

These parts, in extremely poor condition, were discovered during an inspection of the Lille port area.

According to the press release issued earlier in the day on July 4, 2024, the checking was carried out by around thirty customs officials.

Since the export of used automobile parts is prohibited in Senegal, the case was referred to the Lille public prosecutor’s office.

The press release also mentions reminding us of the rules on which French customs are based.

In the post, it was reminded that French Customs ensures compliance with the Basel Convention.

It also regulates the cross-border transfer of waste and prohibits the export of waste to countries that do not have suitable recovery capabilities.

Countries that do not have adequate recovery capacity include Senegal, which is the cause of the seizures.

In 2023, French customs seized more than 95,000 tons of waste.
