Prince William cheered on the English national team from the stadium on Friday. The British heir to the throne gave free rein to his emotions.
On Saturday, England beat Switzerland in the quarter-finals: After 120 minutes of play, the “Three Lions” secured their place in the European Championship semi-finals with a 5:3 win on penalties. It was a nerve-racking few hours for the fans – including Prince William. The British heir to the throne supported his team directly from the stadium in Düsseldorf and experienced a rollercoaster of emotions.
Prince William clapped enthusiastically, put his hands over his face in critical situations or raised his arms in the air. When the English team won the penalty shootout, he cheered enthusiastically and celebrated loudly with those sitting next to him. After the game, he congratulated the players personally and even hugged some of them. You can see the various emotions that went through William in the Instagram post below.
The son of King Charles III also expressed his joy on Instagram. “Nail biting until the end. Well done England! The semi-final is here! We believe in it. W,” the 42-year-old shared in a story.
Many fans celebrated Prince William’s enthusiasm on social media. “I love this passion,” wrote one person on Instagram. “A real king! The heart and passion of a lion,” commented someone else. “I love how happy he is. That makes him so approachable, he’s just like you and me,” reads one comment in the comments section.
The next game for the English national team is on Wednesday. In Dortmund, the players will face the Netherlands in the semi-finals (live ticker at t-online from 9 p.m.). The Netherlands beat Turkey 2-1 on Saturday evening. It is unclear, however, whether Prince William will support his team from the stands again.
