The Ministry of Agriculture opened “weekend markets” in all municipalities of El Salvador, where Salvadorans can purchase fresh products, without intermediaries and at a fair price.
“This idea of weekend markets has been a great way to help all of us Salvadorans. This is what we were waiting for, fair prices,” said one of the residents of the municipality of Santa Ana Centro, who bought at the place.
The “small markets” have been enabled after President Nayib Bukele made a national broadcast to point out, among other things, price increases for basic products.
The Vice Minister Ad-Honorem of Agriculture, Oscar Dominguez, said that 20 points have been set up in strategic areas nationwide, “where we are going to offer truly fair prices.”
“As the Ministry of Agriculture, we are increasing the distribution points nationwide. There is already a merchant who is being prosecuted for misusing food prices and is being prosecuted by the Consumer Protection Agency,” he said.
