Aušra Daugėlienė, an elder in Panemune, noticed that many people still have good clothes, handbags, shoes, and accessories that are gathering dust in their closets. Children’s forgotten toys and scooters take their place at home.

“Sometimes it’s just a pity to throw the clothes that are still suitable for wearing into the container, they collect dust in the closets and take up space. I think that they can be given as a gift, sold inexpensively or exchanged,” said A. Daugėlienė.

The Kaunian woman tried to look for premises where people could bring various things and those who needed them could take them, but she could not find a place under the roof.

Collected in the parking lot near the house

Since it’s warm now, the old lady decided to hold the first market right in the yard. The children’s playground and parking lot near the 24th and 26th Plento Street apartment buildings were perfect for this.

The active woman hung the announcements about the organized market in the stairwells of the apartment buildings, and also announced the event on the social network account of the Panemune community.

The old woman asked that people themselves take care of what to hang their clothes on or what to put things in.

The townspeople’s items for sale had to be in good order, of good quality, with already indicated prices. If things are given away, they also had to be still usable, it just needed to be clearly stated that it was a gift that could be taken by anyone who loved it.

At the end of the event, all unsold or unreturned items had to travel back to their owners’ homes. The site was asked to be kept tidy.

He bought the jacket for just one euro

On the evening of June 19, after work, 15 townspeople who brought and brought their belongings gathered at the market. Flocks of adults and children went to see them and buy something. It turned out that the idea is good, people like exchanging unnecessary things.

One woman even bought a jacket from a famous manufacturer for 1 euro.

“I’ve never had such a luxurious jacket, although I’ve always wanted one. I bought it here for 1 euro. Thank you for the great idea of holding a market”, said the happy resident of Panemune.

Raminta Urbonienė, a visitor to the market, said that she and her daughter brought bored toys. They were exchanged for a children’s scooter.

“We would have had to pay, but we got it for toys, which the child was very happy to take.” It’s also good that the market was held at the end of the working day, because many people leave the city on weekends in the summer,” said R.Urbonienė.

They did not nail the sign, but tied it?

One detail caught the eye of some – it seemed that the sign indicating where the market was held was nailed to the trees.

“The market is a good idea, but a good idea is spoiled by a spoonful of tar.” Is it possible to hang a sign near the trees?” – wondered Vida from Kaunas.

The organizer of the event, A. Daugėlienė, assured that the link was not nailed down.

It was attached to the trees with strings that were nailed to the sign.

A. Daugėlienė said that she will organize two more markets: one in July, the other in September.

“Such gatherings bring people together.

We rarely talk to the price list we meet in the stairwell, and it’s much easier to get to know a person in such an exchange”, A. Daugėlienė shared her thoughts.
