The United Arab Emirates (UAE) company Masdar is involved in research into the production of green hydrogen in Azerbaijan.
As reported by Day.Az, Masdar Azerbaijan Director Murad Sadykhov told Trend about this.
He noted that Masdar, together with the ministries of economy and energy of Azerbaijan, conducted research on hydrogen production.
“Starting in 2022, a feasibility study for the production of offshore wind energy and green hydrogen is being conducted in Azerbaijan. The research is still ongoing. The results will be presented within one to two months. The government of Azerbaijan will make decisions on further steps. The work is being carried out jointly with the state oil company of Azerbaijan SOCAR. A large database has been created in almost two years,” Sadikhov said.
It is worth noting that the study, prepared by the consultancy Advisian with the support of the EBRD, shows that with established markets for ammonia and methanol processing and extensive natural gas distribution systems, Azerbaijan has great potential to meet the demand for low-carbon hydrogen. Hydrogen can help decarbonise these industries.
With large amounts of renewable resources, as well as direct access to natural gas reserves in the Shah Deniz field, Azerbaijan is well positioned to develop both green and blue hydrogen. In addition, the existing natural gas supply infrastructure, the Southern Gas Corridor, could potentially allow hydrogen to be blended with natural gas for export.
