The government assigned by Parliament directed that no excavation or maintenance work be carried out by public authorities except after obtaining permission from the Electricity Company representative for excavation work.

The government, in its urgent circular to the Ministers of Interior, Local Government, Water Resources, Communications and Transport, requested that they review the relevant authorities to ensure that the excavations do not conflict with the paths of electrical cables or the paths of communications cables.

The government also directed the activation of patrols affiliated with the Ministry of Interior and the Municipal Guard to take the necessary measures to control any violations and ensure that the necessary excavation permits are obtained, especially on public roads.

The government called for the formation of a joint working room in which all concerned parties are represented, committed to field visits to work sites and public and private projects to avoid a recurrence of the damage to the main electricity cables.

The General Electricity Company continues maintenance work on the damaged cables on the transmission cable 220 route by its teams in the city of Benghazi and the link between the North Benghazi – Al-Hadiqa stations.

It is noteworthy that the eastern region has been suffering from power outages for several days, extending for continuous hours.

Benghazi has been experiencing continuous power outages for a week, due to the sudden shutdown of some stations and damage to a number of cables, according to citizens.

Residents of the city confirmed to Libya Al-Ahrar that the load shedding continues for long hours, reaching at least 12 hours a day.
