Fetishism is a traditional craft based on the worship of fetishes as spiritual guides.
After 30 years of success and unconditional worship of fetishes in the Guinean savannah, Mamady Doumbouya commonly called “Djafrein Mamady”, residing in the Aéroport plateau district, in the urban commune of Siguiri, has finally decided to abandon his fetishes unconditionally to convert to the Muslim religion.
The now great fetish priest confided in our editorial staff.
“I returned to Guinea in 1984, the year in which the first president of the Republic of Guinea, Ahmed Sékou Touré, bowed out. Starting in Bougouni in Mali, fetishes brought me many benefits and happiness. Whites left from all over the world to come and see me until now. But given my age, I realized that I cannot continue to practice this profession. From today, I have abandoned everything because of God, because God surpasses everything and he is the master of creatures. I believe that fetishism is now part of my past. No one imposed or forced me to do it, it is God who wanted it,” he said.
After his conversion to Islam, his eldest son said he was happy and asked for help from people of good will to take care of their family.
“Today, my father has abandoned his fetishes and it is in this profession that he supported the family. We have absolutely nothing. We ask all people of good will to kindly assist us. God does not give this esteem to just anyone. It was my most ardent wish that my father abandon fetishes. I ask the Muslims of Siguiri, Guinea, Africa and the whole world to make blessings for my father. He had several types of fetishes, but he left everything because of God,” pleaded Lancinet Doumbouya.
Present at the scene of the conversion, Imam Karamo Issa Fofana gave blessings.
“It is God who guides man. After worshiping fetishes for 30 years, to get that back, it is not easy if it is not God the Almighty. May the peace of God be with you and your family,” he said.
It should be noted that Mamady Doumbouya has already made his first appearance in the mosque.
