After the long heat waves in June, the temperature in July is expected to change higher than the average of the last 30 years according to the monthly forecast meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens.

In the same forecast, the temperature drop was close to normal for the season in the first week of the month characterized as temporary. Therefore, from Monday the temperature will rise slightly mainly in the west and the north, and on Tuesday there will be no significant change.

It will reach the Ionian and the continent 36 to 38 and in parts of the western continent 39 to 40 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the island country, 30 to 32 and in places in the east of the Aegean islands, the Dodecanese and southern Crete, 34 to 35 degrees Celsius.

The winds will blow 4 to 6 and reach 7 Beaufort locally in the Aegean.

As for the rain in July, it will be close to the average for the last 30 years, and more rain will fall in the first ten days of the month.

Heat Alarm: 112 for extreme heat

Exposure of the human body to extreme heat creates health risks and we should pay due attention. In conditions of increased or prolonged heat stress, pressure is placed on the body and the greater this pressure, the higher the pressure on the body’s vital functions, for example the cardiovascular system.

Certain population groups are more vulnerable to heat stress and can be driven more easily than others to heat exhaustion or even death from heat stroke.

The Heat-Alarm biometeorological warning system, implemented in a pilot phase from April to October, measures heat stress and its health risk.

For the first time in Greece, as part of the Heat-Alarm research project, warnings are issued in all regional units of the country for days when heat stress can lead to serious health problems, such as heat exhaustion or even death from stroke heat.

Each of the four warning levels assesses the extent and risk of heat stress, taking into account meteorological parameters (temperature, humidity, wind, radiation) as well as characteristics (gender, age, weight, height).
