Organized by the Association of Public Health Physicians of Tangier (AMSPT), in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the Provincial Health Delegation of Tangier-Assilah, this initiative brought together more than 60 women, including breastfeeding and pregnant mothers from the neighborhoods of Aouama Charkia and Gharbia, as well as from surrounding neighborhoods.

Speaking on this occasion, the acting head of the Social Action Division (DAS) of the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah, Ismael Moutaouakil, stressed that this event is part of the celebration of World Health Day (April 7), and coincides with the 19th anniversary of the launch by HM King Mohammed VI of the INDH (May 18).

“This awareness day focuses on maternal and child health, highlighting the importance of vaccination against various communicable diseases, such as measles, as well as compliance with the vaccination schedule and proper nutrition for infants and children,” he noted in a statement to MAP.

“Created with the support of the INDH, the center offers several services to women from disadvantaged backgrounds in the region, including vocational training workshops and a preschool unit,” he added.

For her part, the president of AMSPT, Kholoud Al Ahrach, indicated that this day aims to raise awareness among mothers of the crucial importance of respecting the vaccination schedule of their children, with particular emphasis on the reminder of the measles vaccine.

“This event, which coincides with National Immunization Week (April 22-26), highlights the risks associated with measles, particularly for unvaccinated infants,” she explained.

As for Nada, a young beneficiary aged 29 and mother of two children aged 3 and a half and 1 year and 7 months, she stressed that her participation in this awareness day stems from her desire to better understand her children’s vaccination schedule, as well as to know the importance of a healthy diet for the well-being of her little family.

With an area of 1164 m², the Aouama Charkia education and training center for women was created in 2015 by the INDH, in collaboration with the Entraide nationale. It is currently managed by the association “Mères d’aujourd’hui et de demain”.

The objective of this social structure is to promote the socio-economic inclusion of women, by offering training provided by the Office of Vocational Training and Work Promotion (OFPPT), and National Mutual Aid, as well as to strengthen the skills of beneficiaries for better access to the job market.

The center also provides a space for exchange between women and offers a preschool service for their children.
