In the US, a group of influential Democrats and party supporters sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling on him to withdraw from the upcoming presidential election. The signatories include well-known billionaires, scientists and public figures such as Christy Walton, Mike Novogratz and Lawrence Lessig.

The letter, signed by 168 Democratic Party representatives, was delivered to several White House advisers, The Washington Post reports. It outlines the grave risks that a second term for Donald Trump could entail and stresses the need for a “passing of the torch” in the interests of democracy and the future of the nation.

The signatories expressed concerns about global and domestic instability, the potential abandonment of allies, crony capitalism, political vendettas, and threats to the rights of women and other vulnerable groups if Trump wins. They believe the Democratic Party may have a better chance of winning the 2024 election with a different candidate.

Meanwhile, despite calls to drop out, President Biden said he intends to stay in the race “to the end,” following a series of poor performances in televised debates and a decline in his poll numbers relative to his main rival.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that Biden said whether he would participate in the presidential elections.
