First regional speech ahead of the July 20 convention of the Fatherland Innovation Party
Supreme Council Candidates’ Pledge to ‘Strengthen Grassroots Organization and Expand Party Membership’

The Fatherland Innovation Party began its regional tour of the July 20 convention to elect its next leadership in Daegu, which is considered a “difficult area” for the opposition party. Cho Kuk, the sole candidate for party leader, declared, “I will fight faster, stronger, and more clearly than anyone else to bring an early end to the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution dictatorship.”
The start of the regional meeting tour in Daegu can be interpreted as an attempt to find a breakthrough by expanding the scope amid concerns over the poor performance of the previous election amid the ‘Eodaejo (the party leader will be Cho Kuk anyway)’ atmosphere.
At the ‘First Round of Candidates for Party Representative and Supreme Council Members’ held at Daegu EXCO on the afternoon of the 7th, the candidates for the Democratic Party of Korea’s representative and supreme council members (in order of nomination) Kim Sun-min, Hwang Myeong-pil, and Jeong Do-sang each emphasized that they are the right people to achieve the party’s vision (‘an advanced country with social rights that changes the lives of all citizens’).
Candidate Cho, who is running alone for the party leadership, emphasized in his platform statement, “In 2019, I stood on the brink of death to implement the task of the times, which is prosecution reform, and since then, my family and I have fallen into hell.” He continued, “Today, I stand on the brink of death for the third time. I stand here to follow the people’s orders and engage in politics that wipes away their tears.”
He said, “It was our comrades in the Daegu party who steadfastly fostered the Innovation Party even in the face of the harsh winds of the ruthless prosecutorial dictatorship and the unfavorable regional political landscape,” and “I will run for re-election as party leader in order to uphold your will and determination and make our party bigger and stronger.”
He continued, “The Innovation Party will fight faster, stronger, and more clearly than anyone else to bring an early end to the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution dictatorship,” and promised, “We will prepare thoroughly and run fiercely in the 2026 local elections.”
In doing so, he presented pledges such as ▲recruiting talented people ▲revising the National Assembly Act with the aim of easing requirements for forming negotiation groups ▲changing the name of the Republic of Korea to the 7th Republic and leading the country to become an advanced country in social rights.
The candidates for the Supreme Council expressed their intention to protect candidate Cho, who is facing legal risks, and to thoroughly prepare for the local elections in June 2026.
Candidate Kim, a member of the National Assembly, appealed for support, saying, “A country that stands at the forefront of prosecution reform and raises the banner of social rights is the future of the Republic of Korea,” and “I am the person who will protect my country and my country more persistently than anyone else.”
He continued, “I will create a great journey to become an advanced socially empowered country together with party members,” and promised, “I will create a sovereign party member innovation action so that the voices of party members can be reflected in our party’s policies and strategies.”
Candidate Hwang, who served as a member of the Moon Jae-in government’s State Affairs Advisory Committee, said, “Our party is currently in crisis, and our party members must be feeling an inexplicable sense of frustration.” He added, “All our party members are impressed by the leader’s great appearance, cheering him on, and their expectations are high, but the city and provincial party’s activities are not to their liking.”
He continued, “Because the leadership of the provincial party members is weak, progress is not being made even in situations where we need to move quickly ahead of the local elections,” and pledged, “I will become a communication channel between the central party and the regions with realistic alternatives.”
Candidate Jeong, the chairman of the North Jeolla Provincial Chapter of the Innovation Party, said, “I am a person who believes in the country and protects the country,” and added, “I will do my best to achieve our party’s goals together with candidate Cho and protect the party even in unexpected crisis situations.” He also suggested ▲preparing for all elections through grassroots party member communication ▲establishing a ‘Cho Kuk Political School’ dedicated to political education.
The Innovation Party will begin its roundtable discussion in the Daegu region on this day, followed by Busan on the 12th, Jeonju and Gwangju in North Jeolla Province on the 13th, Daejeon on the 14th, and the National Assembly Members’ Hall on the 16th. After that, the first national party convention will be held at the Suwon Convention Center in Gyeonggi Province at 2:00 PM on July 20th, where the party leader and two supreme council members will be separately elected.
Meanwhile, the Innovation Party met with victims of rental fraud at Daegu EXCO on that day and listened to their difficulties on the ground. At this meeting, the victims of rental fraud proposed ▲ setting up a meeting of the National Assembly for the Rental Fraud Victims Countermeasures Committee ▲ investigating damage cases by region, etc.
In response, Hwang Un-ha, the floor leader of the New Frontier Party, said, “I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as there are still victims of rental housing fraud,” and “We should prepare a bill in the National Assembly with reference to the government’s special law on rental housing fraud.”
