Choose according to blood groups

“Blood group is one of the main priorities by which mosquitoes choose people. Our body releases a chemical signal that reveals our blood type to mosquitoes.

People with blood group 0 (I) are most attracted to mosquitoes, and people with blood group A (II) should survive the least because of mosquitoes, because they simply don’t like suckers,” smiles pharmacist M. Rutalė.

Attracts human sweat

The pharmacist says that mosquitoes are particularly attracted to human sweat. People who exercise warm up faster and sweat more. In the beginning, this smell may not yet be smelled by the human nose, but it already manages to attract the attention of mosquitoes, because they are attracted to the lactic acid and ammonia released with sweat.

Exhales more carbon dioxide

“It is an interesting fact that mosquitoes are attracted to those people who exhale more carbon dioxide. Mosquitoes can smell it even at a distance of 50 meters. A higher amount of carbon dioxide is released by people with a faster metabolism, as well as physically larger individuals, those who exercise and even pregnant women. Recent studies have revealed that women exhale up to 21 percent of their body weight at the end of pregnancy. more carbon dioxide than non-pregnant women”, says pharmacist M. Rutalė.

Dark clothes are enough

“Sometimes, just wearing darker clothes can be enough to get in the sight of mosquitoes. It turns out that they are much more attracted to black shades than light ones, so it is better to choose lighter clothes when going out into nature. It’s a simple step, but it can help prevent more intense mosquito bites,” pharmacist M. Rutalė shares her advice.

For protection – essential oils

When going out into nature, it is always useful to take protective measures against mosquito bites. One of them is essential oils. Choose essential oils that contain lemongrass, eucalyptus, or lavender. If you decide to use eucalyptus essential oil, the pharmacist advises you to dilute it a little with water – this will help prevent skin irritation.

How to use repellents correctly?

The pharmacist says that the most reliable protection against mosquito bites is chemical repellants. He identifies which parts of the body should be protected with the following measures:

“Repellents can be sprayed both on clothes and on exposed parts of the body. And if you want to protect the skin of your face, spray the repellent on your palms and only then apply it safely to your face, protecting your eyes and mouth. And, most importantly, take care of the thinnest and mosquito-favorite skin in areas of the body such as ankles, elbows, neck and wrists,” advises pharmacist M. Rutalė.
