Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the CDH, “a recognition of the place enjoyed by the Kingdom in Africa and in the world” in terms of respect for and promotion of human rights (President of the UPF)

“I would like to congratulate the Kingdom of Morocco and its highest authorities headed by HM King Mohammed VI, as well as all the Moroccan people, for this brilliant and resounding election to the presidency of the UN Human Rights Council,” stressed, in a statement to MAP, Mr. Diagne, also founder of the Senegalese newspaper “Le Quotidien”.

“This is a distinction and recognition of the efforts undertaken by Morocco for many years” in terms of improving its legislative framework and also its public environment, added the president of the UPF, noting that this decision to entrust the presidency of the UN CDH to the Kingdom “will certainly have very positive repercussions on the political, social and democratic climate of Morocco”.

Mr. Diagne, who was speaking on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the 50th Francophone Press Conference, which is being held from January 9 to 11 in Dakar, took the opportunity to express his warm congratulations and those of Senegal to the Moroccan authorities and friendly people of Morocco for this brilliant election at the head of this prestigious UN body.

On Wednesday, Morocco was elected to the presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024, during a vote held in Geneva.

Of the forty-seven members of the Council, 30 supported Morocco’s candidacy, compared to that of South Africa, which received only 17 votes.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad stressed that this election of Morocco, for the first time in its history, to the Presidency of this prestigious UN body, expresses recognition by the international community of the clairvoyance of the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in matters of protection and promotion of human rights.
