Khandva: There is good news for the devotees. The 5 km long railway track from Sanawad to Omkareshwar Road station is now ready. Next month the Commissioner of Railway Safety will inspect the Western Railway. After the inspection, the MEMU train running from Khandwa to Sanawad will be extended to Omkareshwar Road. This train will run from September. Omkareshwar Road has been connected to Nashik Road (Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga) station under the Pradhan Mantri Jyotirlinga Corridor Yojana for Simhastha-2028. The reason behind this is that during Simhastha, devotees do not face any difficulty in visiting Mahakaleshwar-Omkareshwar and Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga.
Gauge conversion work is ongoing
The conversion work of Khandwa-Akola-Indore meter gauge to broad gauge is going on since January 2017. Before the Lok Sabha elections, MEMU train operation started between Khandwa-Sanawad. Now, the gauge conversion work from Sanawad to Omkareshwar Road has also been completed. After the completion of the track work by Western Railway, now the focus is on the construction of passenger facilities at the railway station. Ticket counters, waiting halls, toilets and drinking water are being arranged on the platform.
platform construction work
After the construction of single track at Omkareshwar Road station, now the platform is being constructed. The total distance from Khandwa station to Nashik Road station is 395 km. Sanawad station is 60 km from Khandwa station. The distance from Sanawad to Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is 12 km. The distance from Nashik station to Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is 30 km.
Preparations before Simhastha 2028
Railway officials said that there is little possibility of completion of track work between Omkareshwar-Patalpani before Simhastha 2028 under Khandwa-Mhow broad gauge. Due to slow pace of work in the Ghat section, the railway track will not be ready on time. Connecting Omkareshwar to Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga will provide convenience to devotees at both places through Khandwa.
