CONTEST

Within the framework of the festivities for the Bicentennial of the provincialization of Chimborazo, the National Council of Rural Parish Governments (CONAGOPARE), in collaboration with the Prefecture, has organized the first contest of Village Bands of the Rural Parishes of Chimborazo. This outstanding event is part of the extensive agenda of celebrations planned to commemorate this historic milestone.

The contest is scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024, starting at 6:00 p.m., in Plaza Alfaro in Riobamba

The main objective of this program is to promote the rescue and promotion of art and culture, specifically through the musical traditions rooted in the province. Chimborazo, recognized for its rich musical legacy passed down from generation to generation, will see its local bands display their skills and harmonic abilities on a prestigious stage.

The competition is scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024, starting at 6:00 p.m., at Plaza Alfaro in the city of Riobamba. This competition not only offers the opportunity for local bands to showcase their talent, but also seeks to foster unity and celebrate the musical diversity of the province.

According to Juan Carlos Morocho, president of CONAGOPARE Chimborazo, significant economic prizes have been managed thanks to the support of the Pushak Cooperative, Electroparc, MaxxNet and the Prefecture. “We have made a great effort and will give prizes of $800, $600 and $400 dollars respectively to the first three places as an incentive to continue promoting music in our territories,” said Morocho.

Each participating band will have a maximum of 20 minutes for their presentation, which must include a pasillo and then rhythms of their choice between genres such as San Juanito, Yumbo, Danzante, Tonada, Yaraví, Albazo, Capishca, or other rhythms played in Ecuador.

The delegations will be made up of a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 20 musicians, and there is still room for more interested participants, who can call 0992677505 or go to the offices of CONAGOPARE and the Prefecture of Chimborazo.
