Following his excellent experience on Friday aboard the Williams Formula 1 car, Franco Colapinto completed another very good race in Formula 2, finishing fifth in the Sprint at the British Grand Prix, which was run this Saturday in heavy rain at Silverstone.
After finishing fourth in the classification, due to the rules of the category that invert the starting positions of the top ten in the Sprint, Colapinto started in seventh position. The heavy rain caused numerous collisions, such as those between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Victor Martins, which allowed the Argentine to finish sixth.
And on the last lap, when the rain had stopped, Colapinto showed all his talent to overtake Jak Crawford and reach fifth place, which he would eventually achieve. With this result, the Argentine driver consolidated his fifth position in the championship with 79 points, still far behind Estonian Paul Aron, leader with 117 points, and Frenchman Isack Hadkar, runner-up with 106.
With this in mind, the Argentine will have the chance to improve his championship position in Sunday’s main race, which will serve as a support event for Formula 1. Colapinto will start in fourth place, behind Hadkar, Martins and his MP Motorsport teammate Dennis Hauger.
