Holy Karbala – WAA
The representative of the supreme authority, Sayyed Ahmed Al-Safi, confirmed today, Sunday, that the previous regime fought religious rituals, including the Tuwairij run, while pointing out that it is a distinctive landmark of Ashura and still represents a living and strong symbolic sign of standing with Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

Mr. Al-Safi said in a speech during the ceremony of changing the flag of the dome of the shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him), which was received by the (INA): “The Shiites of the Household of the Prophet (peace be upon them) have been accustomed to renewing grief and crying over the tragedy of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) through councils, reading the tragedy, and councils of self-flagellation in a way that preserves the manifestations of grief and tragedy,” indicating that “the Twairij run expresses the rush to support Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) when he was left alone, crying out, ‘Is there a supporter to support us?’”
He added, “The Tuwairij run is a distinctive landmark of Ashura and still represents a living and strong symbolic sign of standing with Imam Hussein (PBUH) as well as rejecting injustice, oppression and tyranny,” noting that “the previous regime seized the country’s resources and enormous economic and financial potential, but its main concern was fighting Imam Hussein (PBUH) like the rest of the tyrants.”
He stressed that “the previous regime fought religious rituals, including the Tuwairij run,” noting that “the banner of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is too lofty to be attacked by tyrants who have gone to the dustbin of history.”
