Neil Gaiman has been accused of sexual assault

Neil Gaiman is accused of forcing two women into degrading sexual acts and painful intercourse during consensual relations with them. The author, best known for his books “American God” and “Sandman” and their later film adaptations, denies the allegations.

Two women talk about their relationship with Gaiman

In a four-part podcast by British publisher Tortoise Media, two women claim that Neil Gaiman indulged in sexual acts on several occasions. The alleged victims, referred to as Scarlett and K. for reasons of anonymity, were in their early 20s when they met Gaiman. Scarlett, 23, claims Gaiman assaulted her within hours of meeting her at his New Zealand residence in February 2022 when she was hired as his child’s nanny. During a three-week relationship with the author, he engaged in “rough and degrading penetrative sexual acts with her.” As evidence of his statement, Tortoise Media cited text messages and conversations with Scarlett’s friends. Scarlett and Gaiman are said to have shared a bathroom, where, according to Gaiman, only consensual “cuddling” and “smooching” took place. What’s more, they are said to be “consensual digital penetration at all times” – whatever “digital penetration” means.

The second woman, K., is said to have met Gaiman in 2003 at a book signing in Sarasota, Florida, when she was still 18 years old. When their love began, however, she was 20 years old and Gaiman was in his mid-40s. During this time, the now 63-year-old repeatedly had “painful sex” with K., which she neither wanted nor liked. She also accuses him of disturbing her in a particular situation, even though she asked him not to because she had a painful infection at the time.

Gaiman denies the allegations

The source also revealed Gaiman’s take on the allegations. He vehemently denies any allegations of “non-consensual sex with the women” and criticizes the New Zealand police for not accepting his alleged offer in 2022 to help with Scarlett’s complaint. This would indicate “their lack of substance” .Gaiman believes that during their relationship Scarlett suffered from an illness that would induce false memories, however, according to Tortoise Media, there is no medical documentation to support his claim.

In K.’s case too, Gaiman denies any illegal conduct. He is “disturbed by her allegations” and believes “K’s allegations are motivated by her regret about their relationship.” There is said to be no further statement from Gaiman.
