Morocco’s election to head the CDH reflects the “great progress” made by the Kingdom (French senator)

Paris – Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the UN Human Rights Council for the year 2024 reflects the “very great progress” made by the Kingdom since the accession of HM King Mohammed VI to the Throne, underlined French Senator Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Committee in the Senate.

Welcoming in a statement to MAP a “clear result” in favor of Morocco during the vote held earlier in the day in Geneva, Mr. Cambon, also president of the France-Morocco interparliamentary friendship group in the Senate, noted that through this election, “the international community takes note of the efforts made by the Kingdom in terms of human rights.”

According to him, this is a “consecration” and a “recognition” of Morocco’s efforts in favor of human rights, which is on “the right track.”

“With 30 votes out of 47, the choice is clear in favour of Morocco and I am delighted,” declared Mr Cambon, who expects a Moroccan presidency of the CDH that is “active and voluntary” to “lead the world towards greater respect for these rights.”

This, he said, is evidence of “the Kingdom’s very positive influence within the international community.”

This vote and the recognition of the role of this “great friendly country” constitute a “favorable sign for the role, importance and influence of Morocco in Africa,” concluded the French senator.
