Moroccan presidency of the CDH, a diplomatic “resounding success” (Italian expert)

Rome – Morocco’s election to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) for the year 2024 is a “great success” for the Kingdom’s diplomacy, “widely engaged” in this area, underlined the Italian expert, Domenico Letizia.

This “historic” election is a “real diplomatic success” for Morocco, which adds to a “series of important successes” achieved during the previous year, Mr. Letizia told MAP.

Recalling that out of the 47 members of the CDH, 30 supported Morocco’s candidacy against that of South Africa, which only received 17 votes, the Italian expert in international relations noted that Morocco has been “largely committed” in recent years to the promotion of human rights and the principles of the rule of law.

He also highlighted the major progress made by the Kingdom in this area, particularly in the fight against violence against women, noting that the reforms undertaken by Morocco at this level are “welcomed on a large scale”.

Morocco was elected to the Presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024, during a vote held Wednesday in Geneva.
